Settings and configuration

Customize Izzy with these configuration options to personalize your music experience

Access settings by clicking the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom of the app or by pressing Cmd + ,.

Music source

Choose your preferred music streaming service.

Music Source determines which streaming service Izzy uses to search for and play music:

• YouTube Music: Stream millions of songs from YouTube’s music catalog
• Tidal: Hi-Res lossless audio up to 24-bit/192kHz FLAC with quality badges
• JioSaavn: India’s largest music streaming platform

Quick Switch Mode controls how the provider switch button (top-left corner) works:

• Dropdown Menu: Click to open a menu and select any provider directly
• Click to Cycle: Click to cycle through providers one by one

When you change music sources, Izzy automatically clears the search cache to ensure fresh results from the new service.

General settings

Launch at login

Automatically start Izzy when you log in to your Mac.

Enable this if you use Izzy frequently. The app will start in the background and can be accessed instantly with the global hotkey.

Startup tab

Choose which tab opens when you launch Izzy.

Interface settings

Global hotkey

Customize the keyboard shortcut to show or hide Izzy.

Hotkey Modifier	Option, Control, Command, Shift + Option	Option

Available modifiers:

• Option (⌥): Recommended default, rarely conflicts with other apps
• Control (⌃): Alternative modifier key
• Command (⌘): May conflict with Spotlight (Command + Space)
• Shift + Option (⇧⌥): Two-key combination for extra safety

If you choose Command, you may need to change Spotlight’s shortcuts in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts to avoid conflicts.

Menu bar player

Show a compact music player in the macOS menu bar.

• Quick access to show/hide main window

Mini player

Show a floating, resizable mini player window.

Liquid glass effect

Transform the app with a stunning liquid glass aesthetic.

What it does:

Your name

Personalize the home screen greeting.

This name appears on the home screen welcome message.

Window position

Control where the Izzy window appears on your screen.

How it works:

• Drag the handle at the top of the window to reposition it
• Izzy remembers the position between sessions
• Click Center Window to reset to the center of your screen

AI services

Enable AI-powered search and recommendations with Google Gemini.

Gemini API Key	Secure text field	Empty

Gemini API Key enables:

• AI Search: Find music using natural language (“upbeat workout music”)
• For You recommendations: Personalized song suggestions based on listening history
• Smart suggestions: AI analyzes your taste to recommend new music

1. Get a free API key

   Visit Google AI Studio to get your free Gemini API key.

2. Add the key to Izzy

   Paste your API key into the Gemini API Key field in Settings.

3. Verify it's saved

   You’ll see a green checkmark with “Key saved” when the key is successfully stored.

Use the Show Key / Hide Key button to toggle visibility of your API key for verification.

Playback settings

Playback controls layout

Customize how playback controls are displayed.

Center Playback Buttons: When enabled, Previous, Play/Pause, and Next buttons are centered. When disabled, they’re left-aligned.

Minimal Playback Player: When enabled, the playback player uses a more elegant and compact design with:

• Refined horizontal layout
• Subtle visual elements
• Integrated controls
• Cleaner appearance

Updates

Manage how Izzy handles app updates.

Check for Updates	Button	-

Automatic Updates: When enabled, Izzy automatically checks for and notifies you about new versions.

Check for Updates: Manually check for the latest version at any time.

Update checks may fail for development builds if the update server is not configured. This is normal for non-release versions.

Library stats

The Settings screen displays quick stats about your music library:

Favorites

• Shows total count of favorited songs
• Displays thumbnails and titles of your most recent 3 favorites
• Indicates if you haven’t favorited any songs yet

Recently played

• Shows total count of recently played songs
• Displays thumbnails and titles of your most recent 3 plays
• Indicates if you haven’t played any songs yet

Debug options

Debug options are intended for testing and development. Use with caution.

Setting	Action	Purpose
Reset First Launch Flag	Button	Resets the app to treat the next launch as a first-time launch

This is useful for testing the startup tab functionality.

Settings storage location

All settings are stored in your user library:

~/Library/Containers/com.superman.Izzy/Data/Library/Application Support/

Settings persist across app launches and updates.
